The Divorce Coach’s role in the Collaborative Process is to assist participants in moving forward in their divorce by facilitating better self-management of emotions and communication. This allows for more efficient, respectful, open and emotionally healthy dispute resolution that ultimately results in robust, long lasting agreements that preserve the integrity of the family and suit the best interests of family members, particularly children, while eliminating the need for Court involvement.
To that end, the Divorce Coach assists participants in the following ways:
- Working for a resolution that meets the needs of each participant and the family
- Assisting participants in managing emotions and in communicating needs so that discussions can be productive
- Assisting in the development of co-parenting and relationship skills
- Working directly with participants to develop a parenting plan focused on the best interests of the children
- Helping you and your partner develop creative solutions to the roadblocks you may confront
- Facilitating Collaborative meetings and the process as a whole, ensuring that the process proceeds efficiently and effectively
- Establishing meeting agendas with participant and professional team input, and circulating minutes of Collaborative meetings to ensure that issues are addressed, tracked and resolved and that homework is completed
- Being available after the Collaborative Process ends to address any new or recurring issues which may arise within the context of the Coach’s role in order to facilitate resolution between participants
