William R. Levasseur, Jr. has been practicing Family Law, Estate Planning and Estate Administration since being admitted to the Bar in 1987. After litigating Family Law and Estate cases for over 20 years, Mr. Levasseur became interested in Collaborative Practice as an alternative method of solving family problems, and, in March, 2008, he completed the requisite training and became certified to practice in the area of Collaborative Law.
Mr. Levasseur strongly believes that approaching Family Law cases in the Collaborative setting is far better than trying to address custody, support and property issues through the litigation process. “The Collaborative process is far more streamlined and efficient than litigation, especially in the area of gathering information that is relevant to solving the issues families confront in separation and divorce. These efficiencies do not only result in less financial fracturing of the family, but solutions can be achieved in 1/3rd to 1/4th of the time it takes a case to meander through the overburdened Court system. Moreover, the resolution of those issues are far more tailored to the needs of each individual family and far more likely to be honored by each party. This, in turn, means that the resolutions are enduring and post-divorce litigation, involving modification actions and enforcement actions, is much less likely to occur to the family in the future.”
